After I've begun my uni studies, I came across a term 'friend crush' somewhere in the depths of Internet. Now, 'friend crush' does not mean having a crush on your friend. No. It means... well, I'll let urban dictionary speak for me:
Parallels between 'friend crushes' and 'regular crushes':
I was told I don't know how to send out 'the signals', so I can't help you out in this area, sorry. I believe some experts suggest simply 'telling' him/her. I am positive these people have never experienced a crush otherwise they would know how unrealistic and terrifying such scenario is.
Making friends is not easy, if you ask me.
Why do people never simply walk to each other and ask: will you be my friend? That's how we did it in nursery, isn't it? It worked quite well, in my opinion.
"Experiencing a strong desire to become friends with a person you don't know very well. Often times, people experiencing friend crushes will exhibit nervousness, giddiness, idolatry, admiration, and clumsiness similar to those emotions experienced when being around a regular crush."This phenomenon is apparently most common among the students roaming university campuses. There is a logic in it - huge lecture theatres, different people in seminar groups each term, too many people doing the same course as you - we simply meet too many people and get to know only a fraction of them.
Parallels between 'friend crushes' and 'regular crushes':
- your fantasizing will soon turn into idolizing, resulting in potential dissapointment
- (and this is crucial) as with regular crushes, nothing will happen unless you let the person you're crushing on know

I'm not here to give you challenges but if you want one, here's the obvious one. Go tell your 'friend crush' you want to be friends.
Have you ever had a 'friend crush'? What did you do about it?
(To make it fair, I'll answer first: a) yes. two or three. in high school and at uni. b) nothing, i'm a coward :))
